Starter Makeup

Hi everyone, hope you're all doing well! I'm almost a week into university now and loving it, but freshers has meant that I haven't being focusing on blogging at all due to so much going on. I planned to do this post a while ago when it was my sister's birthday. She has just turned 17 and has never really wore make-up until now. She wanted me to get her some make-up bits for her birthday so it got me thinking about what cheap and cheerful make-up would be good for beginners. I've tried a fair few products in my time and these are the ones from the 'drugstore' that I think work really well for beginners both in terms of value for money and ease to apply.

Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation
This remains the cult 'drugstore' foundation of the moment as it gives an amazing finish at a great price of £8.99. It's not too dewy and not too matte and is great for covering blemishes.

Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection Concealer
Again, another cult product which every blogger and their fishes wear! It covers spots and blemishes so well, although I would say it may be too thick for some peoples undereyes.

Rimmel Stay Matte Powder
This is my favourite powder of all time! It puts my shine at bay all day and isn't too heavy nor too light; it's the perfect in between.

Ecotools domed bronzer brush
When finding a brush for my sister, I wanted a multi purpose one that she could use for either powder, bronzer or blusher. This one from Eco tools looked lovely and I would use it for either purposes mentioned before. It was £9.99 which isn't too expensive if you compare it to MAC brushes, but I am aware that you can get one for cheaper. However, I think the brushes you can get for £3ish aren't as good quality and won't last as long. Therefore these brushes, as well as the Real Techniques brushes, are a good investment to make.

Bourjois Delice de Poudre Bronzing Powder
I am in love with this bronzer and I find it to be the nicest one I have ever used from either Boots or  Superdrug. It was £6.99 which is great for it's quality and I highly recommend it over any from Rimmel or Sleek (although the Sleek contouring kit is great!)

Natural Collection blushers
These blushers are either love or hate. Some people find them too chalky but I love it as the pigmentation is incredible and for £1.99 that is just... the best value blush ever! The one I bought my sister was the shade 'Peach Melba' which I have and love as it brightens my face up instantly. They do about 6 shades so you'll still lov them even if peach isn't your shade.

Rimmel Scandaleyes Mascara
This mascara was on an introductory offer of £5 (sorry sis ;) ) so I thought I'd pick this one up for her. I've seen it on her eyes and it looks really nice and gives both length and volume. My favourite one of all time is L'Oreal's telescopic or volume million lashes but they can be quite pricey at £12.

MUA Power Pouts
Finally I wanted to get her a lip product, but not one that was too overpowering e.g a matte red lipstick. The MUA Power Pouts are glossy and reasonably pigmented without being too 'in your face'. I got her a pink/red shade that she could dab on lightly throughout the day or pile on if a more fancy occasion arised. Overall, I love this product and at £3, you cant go wrong!

So there is my overview of the products I picked out for my sister that would be perfect for beginners in make-up. None of the products are too expensive and they are truly brilliant. Let me know if you have any of these products and what you think of them!

Recent Purchases #6

Hi Everyone,
Now I know I haven't done one of these posts in a while. I've bought some clothing items and make-up bits since my last 'recent purchases' post; I just haven't posted about them. However, I went shopping yesterday and visited MAC, Boots and Superdrug. I bought some beauty items so thought it was time to share them in one of these posts. I also have a nice little item from Paperchase that I'll include too. It's a rather small haul because it's just from one trip but enjoy nonetheless!

No7 Beautifully Matte Foundation in 'Warm Ivory':
I heard lots of good things about this foundation in Lisa Eldridge's post about foundations for oily and acne prone skin. This is brilliant because it absorbs oils in the skin, is obviously oil free, is hypo allergenic and has SPF 15 in it too! At No7 counters, they match your skin tone by that cool machine and it really does match your skin well. Warm ivory is the perfect shade for my skin!

Garnier Fructis Extreme Hold Hairspray:
I never wear hairspray as I can never be bothered doing my hair as it's naturally straight. However, recently I have being putting rollers in my hair to give bounce and volume and a slight curl and I freakin love it! The only problem is how my hair drops out at the drop of a hat, so I'm hoping this hairspray is some good stuff.

MAC's 'Rebel' Lipstick:
I had 6 things to Back To Mac so that means one thing.. A FREE LIPSTICK. I was so excited about it, especially as MAC lipsticks have gone up to £15 now... ridiculous! It was between Ruby Woo, Lady Danger and Rebel. As Autumn is coming around, I thought Rebel was the most appropriate and looks so nice on the lips. It's a plum colour that has a hint of raspberry red when on the lips. I was scared it would be too similar to my Revlon Black Cherry lipstick but it's a lot more wearable and pink toned and less vampy than that one.

Sleek's Matte Me in 'Rioja Red':
I love a good matte lip and having heard about these giving long lasting wearability, I thought I'd go all out and get the dark red colour. It's easier than applying a red lipstick so I can imagine this will accompany me for many nights out to come.

2013/2014 Diary From Paperchase:
I've never really owned a diary but as I'm moving out to university in less than two weeks (eek!) I figured I'd need one to keep organised. This one starts from July and ends in July so is perfect for a school/university year kind of thing. It's laminated so will be waterproof and can bend without creasing so will be easy to shove in my bag without getting destroyed. The pattern is quite cute as well and it was really well priced for paperchase, in my opinion. It was £7 but then there was 20% off so I got it for £5.60. There's some nice diaries in there at the moment and some are just 2014 if that's what you are looking for. You get 10% student discount in there on items that are not already discounted, so great for any of you students needing to get organised!

Hope you all enjoyed this little recent purchases post. I've bought some new clothes recently but I just find them really hard to capture decent pictures of them, but let me know if you'd like a post regardless. Hope you all have a good day!

Newest Real Techniques Additions ♥

There's nothing more I love than buying a new make-up brush, especially if it's by Real Techniques. I already have the Core Collection and the Expert face brush which I absolutely adore and use almost everyday. I've always wanted to try the powder brush and the blusher brush due to seeing so many bloggers rave about them. They are INCREDIBLY soft, as are all their brushes, and just make applying make-up so much easier.

However I do love my Avon powder brush as it really packs my Rimmel Stay Matte Powder on (which I need due to my ridiculous oily skin) but without making it look cakey. This Real Techniques Powder Brush doesn't tend to pack much product on, hence I can imagine how so many people will love it as people like a dusting of powder as opposed to lots and lots. But for that reason I use this brush instead for overall bronzer. I find it works really well to give a natural bronzed look and is even nice to put bronzer in the contours.

The blush brush doesn't pack on the product either which is favourable to me as I'm not a 'lots of blush' kinda gal. It is buildable if you like more blush though and obviously it depends on the pigmentation of your blusher too. I love using this with my Natural Collection Peach Melba blush, as it is quite pigmented and this brush tones it down just a little and generally brightens up my face. It's definitely one of, if not, my favourite Real Techniques brush!

New storage for my brushes... Plant Pot from Ikea!

In Boots at the moment, these brushes are 'buy one get one half price' so thought it would be the perfect time to purchase them. I really want some of their eye brushes and possibly even the stippling brush! *My make-up needs (or should I say 'wants') are never ending*

Tell me all your favourite Real Techniques brushes or ones you'd love to purchase! Also, don't forget to follow this blog on bloglovin' here...
